HEXAPANELS

HEXAPANELS

Brick & Marble "HEXAPANEL" Acoustic Panels are made from mycelium, cork, and moss, and form part of a wider exploration into sound, sustainability, and material honesty. Rather than relying on complex technologies, the project investigates how sound can be dampened through simple, low-impact, grown materials.

Design is not only about aesthetics; it shapes how we experience everyday life. Within sustainability discourse, the most effective strategy is often reduction, using less, producing less, and intervening only where necessary. While design conversations frequently focus on physical waste, immaterial pollution such as sound is often overlooked, despite its significant impact on health and wellbeing.

Environmental noise is one of the leading causes of stress-related illness in Europe, yet acoustic comfort remains secondary in product and furniture design. This project reframes sound as a material condition worth addressing, using honest, biodegradable materials to reduce noise while making its presence visible.

The project explores how simplicity, material integrity, and reduction can offer a more grounded approach to acoustic design.
